Women live longer than men, on average, but they spend more of those years in poor health. Part of the reason, according to a nonprofit research funder, is that the biology behind that gap has barely been studied.[1]
The Longevity Science Foundation (LSF) has extended the deadline for its “Invested in Her” campaign to October 1, 2026, as it works toward a $250,000 target to fund early-stage research into ovarian aging and the menopausal transition. According to the organization, only 8.8% of NIH funding goes toward women’s health research overall, and just a sliver of that touches ovarian aging specifically, despite the fact that the hormonal shifts around menopause ripple outward into cardiovascular, brain, and bone health.
Where the money would go
Rather than backing a single therapy, the campaign is structured around three coordinated pillars: better tools for measuring ovarian aging and menopause, deeper research into the biological mechanisms driving the transition, and early-stage work on interventions that treat reproductive aging as something that can potentially be influenced rather than simply endured. The foundation says 100% of donations go directly to research, with no overhead deducted, and gifts are tax-deductible where eligible.
This is a funding announcement, not a study with results to report yet, so there’s nothing here to test on yourself. But it’s a useful reminder that a lot of what we don’t yet know about women’s midlife health isn’t because the biology is unknowable, it’s because it’s been underfunded relative to its impact. If closing that gap matters to you, campaigns like this are one concrete way to weigh in with your wallet rather than just your attention.
